The African continent hosts all tropical vegetation zones. From the lowlands to the heights of the Kilimanjaro with his endemic crested trees, from the tropical rainforests at the Congo river, to the large acacia- and baobab dryforests (photo). From the deserts of the Namib to the mediterranean sclerophyllous vegetation in the very north and south.
On Wednseday, 26th Nobember 2025, the Ecological Botanical Garden of the University of Bayreuth invites everyone to a guided tour to experience this impressive diversity. Typical plants of the different vegetation zones will be presented, as well as important crops such as manioc or mountain banana. As a special treat in the pre-christmas season the visitors will also get to know some plants that play a role in African christmas traditions.
Start of the tour is at 2pm at the main entrance of the Ecological Botanical Garten on the campus of the university. The participation is for free.
