Am Mittwoch, 24. April 2024, organisiert der Exzellenzcluster Africa Multiple gleich mehrere Veranstaltungen zum Rahmenthema „Sounding African Music Hertage“ im Iwalewahaus, dem Afrikazentrum der Universität Bayreuth. Besucher sind herzlich willkommen.

Filmvorführung: 24.04.2024, 18.00 Uhr, Iwalewahaus. Sprache ist Englisch. Der Eintritt ist frei. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

Um 18.00 Uhr findet eine Filmvorführung statt. Gezeigt wird das Highlife Heritage Concert, das im Juli 2023 in Ghana stattfand. Renommierte Künstlerinnen wie Kwesi Dankwa & Dzidzidu Band, Ebo Taylor Saltpond City Band und Akablay Abiza Band traten bei diesem Konzert auf. Der Feature-Film präsentiert das Konzert, das mit dem aktuellen Forschungsprojekt „Beyond the Digital Return“ des Exzellenzclusters Africa Multiple an der Universität Bayreuth zum populärmusikalischen kulturellen Erbe in Verbindung steht. Der Leiter des Projekts, Dr. habil. Markus Coester, erläutert nach dem Screening das Konzert und berichtet über den Umgang mit populärmusikalischem kulturellem Erbe seitens der ghanaischen Regierung, der UNESCO und der Afrikawissenschaft.

Im Anschluss an die Filmvorführung wird ab 20.00 Uhr die ghanaische Band RHYTHMERS featuring Frank Karikari im Iwalewahaus in Bayreuth auftreten. Das Konzert ist Teil der Veranstaltung Sounding African Music Heritage, die sich dem musikalischen Erbe des afrikanischen Kontinents und seiner Aufarbeitung widmet. Frank Karikari stammt aus einer bedeutenden Musikerfamilie in Ghana und gilt als Gitarrist, der die ghanaischen Gitarrenstile der Highlife-Musik, dem wichtigsten Populärmusikgenre dort, wie wenige andere beherrscht. Kwame Sometimer besticht durch sein komplex rhythmisch-musikalisches Bassspiel. Schlagzeuger des neu formierten Trios ist Eko Alabi, der seit vielen Jahren auch mit Größen der afrikanischen Highlife- und Afrobeat Musik, wie Ebo Taylor und Pat Thomas weltweit auf Tournee ist.

On Wednesday, 24 April 2024, the Cluster of Excellence Africa Multiple is organizing several events on the framework topic "Sounding African Music Hertage" at the Iwalewahaus, the Africa Centre of the University of Bayreuth. Visitors are very welcome. 

Film screening: 24.04.2024, 18.00 hrs, Iwalewahaus. Language is English. Admission is free. Registration is not required. 

A film screening will take place at 18:00. The Highlife Heritage Concert, which took place in Ghana in July 2023, will be shown. Renowned artists such as Kwesi Dankwa & Dzidzidu Band, Ebo Taylor Saltpond City Band and Akablay Abiza Band performed at this concert. The feature film presents the concert, which is linked to the current research project "Beyond the Digital Return" of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence at the University of Bayreuth on popular music cultural heritage. The head of the project, Dr. habil. Markus Coester, will explain the concert after the screening and report on how the Ghanaian government, UNESCO and African studies deal with popular music cultural heritage.

 Following the film screening, the Ghanaian band RHYTHMERS featuring Frank Karikari will perform at the Iwalewahaus in Bayreuth from 8.00 pm. The concert is part of the Sounding African Music Heritage event, which is dedicated to the musical heritage of the African continent and its reappraisal. Frank Karikari comes from an important musical family in Ghana and is regarded as a guitarist who masters the Ghanaian guitar styles of highlife music, the most important popular music genre there, like few others. Kwame Sometimer impresses with his complex rhythmic-musical bass playing. The drummer of the newly formed trio is Eko Alabi, who has been touring the world for many years with greats of African highlife and Afrobeat music such as Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas.
