On 11 March 2025 the DEG book club meets for the second time. In our inaugural January session we chose "Going Zero" by Anthony McCarten as our first book club candidate and we are currently enjoying the read!

"Going Zero" by Anthony McCarten is a gripping, satirical novel set in a near-future world dominated by surveillance and technology. The story follows a diverse group of participants in a high-stakes game where they must remain completely "off the grid"—cut off from all digital and physical tracking—to win a massive cash prize. As the game intensifies, participants are forced to confront their deepest fears and desires, while the boundaries between reality and manipulation blur. McCarten explores themes of privacy, human nature, and the power of technology in a society increasingly governed by control and surveillance.

When we meet again in March we will discuss the novel talking about our general impressions as well as the author's style and language, our favourite passages and possible alternative endings.
