For the 20th anniversary of the Afro-Caribbean Festival in Bayreuth, the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence presents a special performance on stage. Four musicians affiliated with the research organisation from the very beginning will  bring their musical vision to Bayreuth as MangrOOve: the band name - a creative fusion of ‘groove’ and ‘mangrove’ - is symbolic of cultural networking and vibrant diversity.

Four exceptional musicians from different continents - one unique sound: MangrOOve is more than just a band. It is a sonorous meeting of musical worlds, in which the pulsating rhythms of the Indian Ocean are combined with the powerful sounds of the Atlantic region. The result is a rousing world music fusion style, full of joy, depth and improvisational energy.

MangrOOve is backed by internationally acclaimed solo artists:

• Matchume Zango (Mozambique) - virtuoso timbila master, percussionist, composer and producer
• Childo Tomás (Mozambique) - versatile bassist, percussionist and charismatic singer
• Tao Ravao (Madagascar) - guitarist and specialist for the traditional Valiha harp
• Chang Jae Hyo (South Korea) - percussionist and expressive singer

Each a star on international stages in their own right - together a performance full of groove and inspiration.
